Meet Our Staff
Lisa Burns – Founder, Artist, Project Coordinator, President of the Board
Lisa graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.A. in Fine and Applied Arts and Theatre and afterward studied at professional painting schools in the United States, France, Belgium and Italy. She launched her own all-female painting crew in Portland, Oregon called Purple Tree Painting and Design and specialized in mural commissions throughout the city. Her studio was in an artist collective and there she helped facilitate hosting large events, CD release parties and coordinate gallery shows. Lisa loves working with all ages, and was a guest lecturer for theatre set design at local high schools. She designed the set and taught the students painting techniques while working together using a hands-on approach. She also relishes in collaborating with other artists to bring beauty and healing to the world through art.
Later Lisa moved to Leuven, Belgium where she received an M.A. in European Studies from K.U. Leuven, with a focus on Cultural Economics and Corporate Sponsorship of the Visual Arts. Heart to Heart with Art was a project she first envisioned while working on her thesis and it finally came to fruition four years later when the nonprofit was established. Lisa moved back to the United States and is still creating and showing artwork under LMB Artistic Design. She shares her time between Portland, OR and the SF Bay Area.

She is TESL Certified and founded a free community English Learning program in Tualatin, Oregon that offers free English classes to nonnative speakers, provides daycare for the student’s children, and also arranges for transportation for the families to attend the classes. Heart to Heart with Art helps Glenda’s program in a variety of ways, like providing art classes and projects for her student’s children while parents are in class.
Glenda often uses art in her classes, because she feels that it can bridge the gap in communication where words fail. Her experience has taught her that “Art” can be a universal language encouraging a sense of community among immigrants and refugees and as well as a great tool for teaching English.
